Prospect Park has announced it no longer plans to continue All My Children and One Life to Live, as the hurdles to do so have proven too much.

In news that saddened the entire soap opera community, Prospect Park has announced it no longer plans to continue All My Children, which ended in September, and One Life to Live, which is due to end in January. The shows were to debut online on a new site called The Online Network (TOLN).

Will Soap Fans Get a Proper Ending?

One of the unfortunate side effects of Prospect Park's decision to no longer continue the soaps is that soap fans will likely not get a proper conclusion to All My Children and One Life to Live.

All My Children ended in September with a whopper of a cliffhanger, when J.R. Chandler fired a gun into a crowded room. What happened afterwards may never be known. Originally, the soap planned a more hopeful and tidy conclusion, but the news that the soaps would continue forced the writers to put a cliffhanger at the end, in the assumption the new web soap would pick up where the ABC soap left off.

One Life to Live, unfortunately, is in a similar situation. While it has not yet ended, the show has already filmed its final episode, so no changes are likely to be made. While it is not yet known how it will end, it likely had some kind of cliffhanger envisioned to make fans want to eagerly check out Prospect Park's web version.

How Are the Cast and Crew Reacting?

Many soap stars, like All My Children's Lindsay Hartley and Cameron Mathison, have tweeted their sadness that the soaps will no longer continue.

Kassie DePaiva has also expressed her disappointment at the news, as she was looking forward to continuing in her role on One Life to Live.

Perhaps the saddest news is that Agnes Nixon, the creator of All My Children and One Life to Live, was reportedly not informed of the news and found out only when the fans did.

What Does This Mean for Soaps?

This news means that come January, there will be only four soap operas left in the United States: General Hospital, The Bold and the Beautiful, The Young and the Restless, and Days of our Lives.

This may have the biggest effect on General Hospital, as there were rumors Prospect Park was going to pick it up if it was cancelled next year. Now it appears that will not be possible.
