Soap Opera Digest has announces that General Hospital fan fave Kimberly McCullough, who plays Robin Scorpion on the ABC daytime drama, will depart the soap opera during the first couple of months of 2012. No final air date has been given, and the details of her exit story are being kept secret.
Robin Scorpio
Robin is one of the most popular characters on the show. One of the reasons is the viewers have seen the same actress play her since a child, and they have literally watched her grow up. McCullough was only 7 when she began playing the role in 1985.
Robin's most famous story took place when she was a teenager and fell in love with Stone Cates. It was later revealed that Stone was HIV positive, and that he had passed the illness on to Robin. Stone eventually died, leaving Robin fearful about her future.
Jason Morgan helped her deal with her grief, and the two entered into a relationship that was also very popular at the time. Jason's lifestyle as a mob enforcer, and his decision to pretend to be Michael's father, contributed to a lot of strain in their relationship. She eventually left town.
Robin returned in 2005 when Jason was sick. She enlisted the aid of Dr. Patrick Drake to help him. The two eventually fell in love, got married, and had a baby girl, Emma. The couple faced numerous challengers, including Robin's postpartum depression and Patrick's infidelity with the psychotic Lisa Niles, who later terrorized the couple.
Currently on the show, Robin has discovered that her HIV medications are no longer working due to Lisa tampering with them. She has not yet told Patrick that she is sick. Only Jason knows the truth so far, but he has urged her to tell Patrick the truth and refused her requests to help get her out of the country without Patrick knowing so he won't have to watch her die.
How Will Robin Leave General Hospital?
It appears the show is planning to kill Robin off, though that is not certain. She is likely to become more ill as the months wears on. It has been confirmed that Finola Huges will return to her role as Robin's mother at some point to help her.
Is There Hope that Robin Might Live or Stay?
Due to General Hospital having a new head writer and executive producer, it is possible, though unlikely, that a new deal will be reached with McCullough. Her decision to leave the show is mainly due to her wanting to concentrate more on directing. It is possible the story of her exit could change, and if the previous head writer believed that death was the best exit, the new ones may feel differently.
