According to Soap Opera Digest, James Franco will be returning to General Hospital for a short stint in time for February sweeps. Franco will first air on Friday, February 25 and his final appearance will be on Monday, February 28, dates which bookend the Oscars, which will see Franco sharing co-hosting duties with Anne Hathaway. The appearance, perfectly timed to take advantage of the press Franco will receive due to his co-hosting gig, is hoped to bring more attention to General Hospital. This will be Franco's third stint as the self-named Franco on the show, and it is meant to be a prelude to a much larger story that will take place later in the year .
Franco's History on General Hospital
During Franco’s first stint on General Hospital, he witnessed a mob shootout involving Sonny Corinthos's enforcer, Jason Morgan. Franco quickly became fixated on Jason because he thought of him as being a fellow artist. Franco's art, which many residents of Port Charles found creepy, involved staged crime scene photos of dead bodies.
During his time in town, he terrorized the people that were close to Jason. In doing so, he kidnapped Lulu, Sam and Carly, seduced Maxie Jones, and blew up a warehouse that Lulu was rescued from in the nick of time by Dante.
Franco returned a few months later. One of his agents attacked Michael Corinthos in prison, and people around Port Charles began receiving photos from Franco. This caused Dante to have Jason, who was imprisoned at the time to help protect Michael, released from prison so that he could help find him and draw Franco out. Jason and Franco had a showdown at an art show in Los Angeles, filmed on location, which Franco used a cover to steal Elizabeth Webber's newborn baby. Franco gave the baby to his mother, who was played by Franco's real-life mother, to take care of as her own child. Franco then left town.
Franco and Brenda
It is likely that when James Franco returns to the show, he will share scenes with Brenda. His last scene showed him looking at a photo of her, indicating he wants to use her as a model for one of his shoots. Brenda has already been approached about appearing in one while she was in Rome, but she turned the offer down.
More of this story will likely be played out later in the year when Franco returns.
