Crystal Chappell has been let go from Days of our Lives. She played the role of Dr. Carly Manning.

In news sure to disappoint fans of popular soap actress Crystal Chappell, NBC has announced the Emmy-winning actress will be leaving the show soon. Chappell will likely exit before the big Days revamp on September 26.

Crystal Chappell

Chappell is well-known to soap fans. She appeared on All My Children and Santa Barbara before landing her first major role as Carly Manning on Days of our Lives. While playing Carly, Chappell got to know her co-star Michael Sabatino, who she later married and had two children with.

After leaving Days of our Lives in 1993, Chappell did some guest-star work on shows such as Silk Stalkings, Diagnosis: Murder and Walker, Texas Ranger. In 1995, she joined the cast of One Life to Live in the role of Maggie Carpenter, which she played until 1997.

In 1999 Chappell joined Guiding Light as Olivia Spencer, the role she is likely most famous for. Chappell won the Daytime Emmy for Outsanding Supporting Actress in a Daytime Drama for the role in 2002. In 2009, Chappell's character entered into a same-sex relationship with Natalia Rivera. The pairing gained much acclaim from fans and critics in the press.

After Guiding Light ended in 2009, Chappell rejoined Days of our Lives in the role of Carly Manning. She also began work on a webseries, Venice: The Series, that she co-produces. In 2011, the series won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Class - Short Format Daytime. The same year, Chappell's contract on Days of our Lives was not renewed.

How Will Carly Leave Days of our Lives?

Chappell's most recent storyline on Days of our Lives has involved her character Carly becoming increasingly dependent on prescription painkillers. She started taking them over the emotional pain caused by her best friend, Jennifer Horton, dating the man she loved, and father of her daughter, Dr. Daniel Jonas. Carly's enemy, Vivian Alamain, helped this process along, and she enlisted her estranged son Quinn Hudson, to help her.

Eventually Carly's drug habit was exposed to her friends and family, and Carly ran away from them in shame. Quinn found her and helped her recover. Since then, she has entered a treatment facility and has been visited by her son, Nicholas Alamain. Their relationship had been strained because she killed his father, but recently the two have started making amends.

It is likely Carly will leave the show when this story is over, possibly departing Salem to spend time with her son.
